Association of mental stress–induced myocardial ischemia with cardiovascular events in patients with coronary heart disease

Vaccarino V, Almuwaqqat Z, Kim JH, et al. - Researchers herein examined if in patients with coronary heart disease, myocardial ischemia provoked by mental stress is linked with adverse cardiovascular events.

  • Data from two prospective cohort studies of patients with stable CHD [the Mental Stress Ischemia Prognosis Study (MIPS) and the Myocardial Infarction and Mental Stress Study 2 (MIMS2)] were analyzed.

  • There were a total of 918 participants.

  • In patients with coronary heart disease, mental stress–induced myocardial ischemia was significantly linked with an increased risk of cardiovascular death or nonfatal myocardial infarction.
