Association of high-density lipoprotein, triglycerides, and homocysteine with bone mineral density in young Indian tribal women
Archives of Osteoporosis Oct 14, 2018
Saoji R, et al. - Researchers assessed if the correlation of serum lipids and homocysteine (Hcy) with bone mineral density (BMD), reported mostly in elderly patients, is seen in young or premenopausal women, which would suggest screening young women with low BMD for dyslipidemia or any cardiovascular events and vice versa. Participants were 293 women aged 20–47 years from Northeast India. Findings suggested a significant association of low levels of HDL and triglycerides and high levels of Hcy with osteopenia and osteoporosis in these women. They observed BMD to be positively associated with HDL and triglycerides, while Hcy was negatively correlated with BMD.
