Association of dimethylguanidino valeric acid with partial resistance to metabolic health benefits of regular exercise
JAMA Jun 12, 2019
Robbins JM, et al. - Via conducting cross-sectional and longitudinal analyses of the Health, Risk Factors, Exercise Training, and Genetics (HERITAGE) Family Study—a 20-week, single-arm endurance exercise clinical trial—researchers investigated the association between dimethylguanidino valeric acid (DMGV), a novel circulating bio-marker of hepatic fat, and metabolic health traits prior to and following 20 weeks of endurance exercise training. The investigators noted an association between DMGV, an early marker of cardiometabolic dysfunction, and attenuated improvements in lipid traits and insulin sensitivity after exercise training. DMGV levels may help to identify individuals who need additional therapies beyond guideline-directed exercise to improve their metabolic health, concluded the researchers.
