Association of BMI with propofol dosing and adverse events in children with cancer undergoing procedural sedation

Hospital Pediatrics Sep 14, 2017

Rogerson CM, et al. - This study investigated the association of BMI with sedation dosing and adverse events in children across a range of BMIs. Compared with children of a normal weight, overweight children or those with obesity who needed deep sedation could undergo successful sedation with lower propofol dosing. This dosing strategy may help to mitigate the risks associated with sedating patients who are obese. With equal amount of sedation, underweight versus normal weight children exhibited an increased rate of complications.
