Association between vitamin D status and sepsis in children: A meta-analysis of observational studies
Clinical Nutrition Aug 31, 2019
Xiao D, Zhang X, Ying J, et al. - Used EMBASE, Ovid Medline and Cochrane Library, researchers conducted a meta-analysis of studies published in English before November 21, 2017, to explore the connection between vitamin D status and sepsis in children. The study sample consisted of 975 patients and 770 control candidates. In children and neonates, the connection between vitamin D deficiency/lower 25(OH)D levels and sepsis was significant. Factors that could illustrate variations in the outcomes include the study location/medical conditions, study design, 25(OH)D assay methods, diagnostic sepsis at different ages, diagnostic criteria for sepsis, and sepsis with comorbidities. In order to verify the outcomes by considering more confounders, further studies are needed.
