Association between the proportions of carbohydrate and fat intake and hypertension risk: Findings from the China Health and Nutrition Survey

Journal of Hypertension Jun 16, 2021

He D, Sun N, Xiong S, et al. - Using data from the China Health and Nutrition Survey from 1991 to 2011, researchers intended to expound the dietary impacts of different proportions of carbohydrate as well as fat on hypertension in the Chinese people. The final analysis involved 10,459 Chinese participants aged over 12 years. In each group, hazard ratio and 95% confidence interval of hypertension were computed employing a multivariable Cox regression. The reference group was the medium proportion of carbohydrate and fat diet intake group. Findings showed a significant association of a high-carbohydrate and low-fat diet with an elevated risk of hypertension.
