Association between serum total bilirubin levels and the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus
Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice May 13, 2019
Yang M, et al. - In patients with impaired fasting glycemia (IFG) and impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), researchers ascertained if serum bilirubin is an independent risk factor of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) onset. They used logistic regression to determine risk factors for T2DM development and to assess whether bilirubin levels are associated with the development of T2DM independently. A total of 523 patients were analyzed in this prospective cohort study. According to findings, low levels of serum total bilirubin were linked to a significantly increased risk of T2DM in patients with IFG or IGT.
