Association between PUFA intake and serum concentration and mortality in older adults: A cohort study
Clinical Nutrition Feb 27, 2019
Lelli D, et al. – In this study, researchers evaluated the association between polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) intake and serum concentration via scatterplot and Pearson correlation test; Kaplan-Meier method and Cox regressions were used to assess all-cause and cardiovascular mortality and adjust for potential confounders, respectively. In all, they did not identify any association between overall PUFAs, linolenic and linoleic acid intake, and their serum concentration. There was no evidence of an association of PUFA intake with serum concentration in this cohort sample of community-dwelling older adults. The authors suggested that moderation of PUFA levels based on dietary intake may not be an effective mortality prevention stragety in this population.
