Association between preoperative hydration status and acute kidney injury in patients managed surgically for kidney tumours
International Urology and Nephrology Jun 10, 2018
Ellis RJ, et al. - In this retrospective analysis of patients who underwent nephrectomy for kidney tumours at a single centre, researchers investigated the associations of preoperative dehydration and intraoperative hypotension with postoperative acute kidney injury. Adjusting for potential confounders, multivariable logistic regression was used to assess links between exposures and the primary outcome. They found that preoperative dehydration could be related to postoperative acute kidney injury. Based on this finding, it may be recommended that dehydration in the preoperative period should be avoided. They recommended adherence to international evidence-based guidelines on preoperative fasting.
