Journal of Periodontology Apr 01, 2019
Chanomethaporn A, et al. - In this matched case-control study in 2 tertiary hospitals in Khon Kaen, Thailand, authors researched 85 females with spontaneous abortion at <20 weeks of gestation vs 85 controls to study the relationships of periodontitis as well as periodontopathic bacteria with spontaneous abortion. They observed significantly more inclination of cases towards periodontitis (50.6%) as compared to the controls (21.2%). A relationship between increased levels of P. gingivalis and F. nucleatum, and periodontitis in both case and control groups was noticed. They found periodontitis more frequent in females with spontaneous abortions vs matched controls.
