Association between overactive bladder treatment and falls among older adults

Jayadevappa R, et al. - Experts evaluated the risk of falls related to overactive bladder (OAB), and the impacts of OAB treatment on falls among older adult Medicare fee-for-service enrollees. They identified the patients with a diagnosis of OAB; Urinary Incontinence; Urinary incontinence, unspecified; Urge incontinence; Mixed incontinence (male, female); Urinary frequency; Nocturia; or Urgency of urination and followed retrospectively for 2 years An increased risk of falls was noted in the older adults with OAB. This risk could be reduced with the treatment for OAB. The requirement to effectively identify and treat OAB in older adults was emphasized in the findings.
