Gaulton TG, et al. - This retrospective cohort study was performed to ascertain the relationship between obesity and functional decline in the 2 years after cardiac surgery and the interaction between obesity and age. Among the survivors of cardiac surgery, the association between obesity and the postoperative functional decline differed according to age. To identify interventions to improve outcomes in groups of older adults in whom obesity could increase the risk of postoperative functional decline, additional research was required.
