Association between insulin resistance and objective measurement of physical activity in community-dwelling older adults without diabetes mellitus

Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice Aug 01, 2018

Umegaki H, et al. -In Japanese community-dwelling older adults without diabetes mellitus, researchers examined the relationship between objectively measured physical activity (PA) and cardiometabolic risk factors, especially insulin resistance (IR). For this investigation, they measured daily PA by accelerometers in 388 community-dwelling older adults, and using the homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance, IR was determined. In this population, IR was correlated with light intensity physical activity, but not with moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA). Findings revealed that MVPA was correlated with triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and IR.
