Association between history of abuse and falling in older adults
Journal of the American Geriatrics Society Jul 18, 2018
Reyes-Ortiz CA, et al. - In this cross-sectional population-based study, researchers assessed the link between history of several types of abuse and falling among community-dwelling adults aged 60 and older living in Bogotá, Colombia (n=2,000). They used data from the Salud, Bienestar y Envejecimiento (Health, Well-being, and Aging) Bogotá Study. Falling was defined as the number of times a person had fallen during the previous 12 months. As per self-report, they evaluated history of abuse. Using logistic regression analyses, adjusted for potential confounders, they assessed the link between elder abuse and falling. They found a strong association between history of abuse (emotional, physical, or sexual) and falling in older adults living in Bogota.
