Journal of Clinical Periodontology Feb 26, 2019
Kang J, et al. - In this national cross-sectional study, 19,436 individuals of age 19-74 years with body mass index(BMI) 18.5-29.9 kg/m2, from the national health and nutrition examination survey(NHANES) 1999-2012, were studied to analyze the relationship between central obesity and tooth loss in non-obese people using a zero-inflated negative binomial model. They noted an incline of 31% in the prevalence of tooth loss among overweight person with central obesity as compared to an overweight candidate with central obesity. An increase of 40% was also recorded in the prevalence in similar cases when compared with a normal-weight person without central obesity. Hence, they suggested non-obese individuals with central obesity, a significant target population for oral health preventive policies.
