Association between alcohol consumption and colorectal cancer risk: A case–control study in the Han Chinese population
European Journal of Cancer Prevention Aug 03, 2018
Wang Y, et al. - Researchers further assessed the link between alcohol consumption and colorectal cancer risk in a case-control study in the Han Chinese population, since many epidemiologic studies have already reported that alcohol is a risk factor. This study included 310 patients with colorectal cancer and 620 healthy matched controls. Estimation of the odds ratios and the corresponding 95% confidence intervals was carried out by using multiple logistic regression. Findings corroborated an association between heavy alcohol consumption and an increased risk of colorectal cancer. This association was modified by smoking, especially in heavy smokers. Colorectal cancer risk was 4.01-fold higher in heavy smokers and heavy drinkers vs never smokers who consumed less than 7 drinks/week.
