Assessment of the relationship between frailty syndrome and the nutritional status of older patients
Clinical Interventions in Aging Jun 01, 2019
Muszalik M, et al. - In this cross-sectional analysis of older patients (n=120) who were hospitalized at the Geriatric Clinic between January 2017 and May 2017, researchers examined the link between frailty syndrome and nutritional status. This study included a predominantly urban population with a mean age of 71 years. The investigators used the Frailty Instrument of the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe, and the Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA) as research tools. Findings revealed a significant correlation of frailty syndrome with gender, financial status, and MNA score. Overall, frailty syndrome was significantly correlated with the nutritional status of older adults. Controlling the nutritional status of older people and the frailty syndrome appeared critical as far as prevention and clinical application may be concerned. For patient evaluation, risk assessment and planning the intervention for that group of patients, the use of above-mentioned scales was recommended.
