Assessment of pedicle size in patients with scoliosis using EOS 2D imaging: A validity and reliability study
European Spine Journal Apr 29, 2021
Peeters CMM, van Houten L, Kempen DHR, et al. - A validity and reliability study was conducted to evaluate pedicle size in patients with scoliosis using low-dose X-ray device (EOS) 2D imaging. Researchers enrolled a total of 16 patients who had undergone surgical treatment for idiopathic scoliosis (IS). They compared intra- and extracortical pedicle height and width measurements on EOS images with reconstructed intra-operative 3D images of the isthmus of included pedicles. They further ascertained intra- and interobserver reliability of pedicle size measurements on EOS images. The outcomes of this research demonstrate a good validity and reliability for pedicle size measurements on EOS radiographs. Thus, in patients with IS, EOS radiographs may be used for a preoperative estimation of pedicle size and subsequent screw diameter.
