Assessment of liver fibrosis by transient elastography should be done after hemodialysis in end stage renal disease patients with liver disease

Digestive Diseases and Sciences Sep 28, 2017

Taneja S, et al. - This study strived to evaluate liver fibrosis by transient elastography (TE) and search for factors associated with a change in liver stiffness measurement (LSM) with one session of hemodialysis (HD). In patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) on long-term maintenance hemodialysis (MHD), LSM by TE decreased significantly after HD. Therefore, for accurate assessment of liver fibrosis, TE needed to be done after HD.
