Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery Jul 12, 2018
Lee DY, et al. - Experts reviewed the published studies comparing arthroscopic meniscal surgery with conservative management to treat meniscal injuries in patients 40 years of age and older. In this type of patients, a superiority of the efficacy of arthroscopic surgery to conservative management was not noted. Hence, for degenerative meniscal tears, arthroscopic meniscal surgery should not be recommended as the first choice of treatment. In patients over 40 years of age, authors suggested a cautious consideration of arthroscopic surgery for degenerative meniscal tears and only when there has not been a satisfactory response to conservative management.
