Are respiratory disorders risk factors for troublesome low-back pain? A study of a general population cohort in Sweden
European Spine Journal Nov 04, 2019
Rasmussen-Barr E, et al. - In individuals with no or occasional low back pain (LBP) at baseline, researchers ascertained if respiratory disorders were risk factors for reporting troublesome low back pain (LBP), one of the world's largest health problems for public health systems and is ranked first among 291 disorders with most years of disability. This investigation was based on the Stockholm Public Health Cohort 2006/2010. This prospective cohort study comprised of 17,177 adults reporting no or occasional LBP the last 6 months at baseline. The authors discovered that suffering from asthma and/or COPD raises the risk of developing troublesome LBP, emphasizing the importance of considering the overall health of people at risk of troublesome LBP and taking into consideration the multi-morbidity perspective. In order to confirm the findings, future longitudinal studies are required.
