Aortic valve replacement associated with survival in severe regurgitation and low ejection fraction
Heart Nov 04, 2017
Fiedler AG, et al. - This study was undertaken to assess the survival benefit with aortic valve replacement (AVR) vs medical management in patients with severe aortic regurgitation (AR) and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) <35%. Findings demonstrated an association of AVR with higher survival in patients with low LVEF and severe AR, even after adjustment for clinical characteristics and patient age. This study, although could not completely eliminate treatment selection bias, findings afford some evidence that surgery may be associated with prolonged survival in this high-risk patient group.
