Anticoagulation therapy in patients with non valvular atrial fibrillation hospitalized in the Department Of Medicine in the NOACs era
QJM: An International Journal of Medicine Apr 13, 2018
Atamna A, et al. - In recent years, warfarin has been used less in anticoagulation therapy (AC), as part of the treatment for atrial fibrillation (AF), in favor of the newer oral anticoagulants (NOACs), so researchers wanted to characterize AC treatment policy for patients with AF in this new era. It was noted that 76% of all patients were discharged with AC therapy compared to 55% in the pre-NOACs era, with increases seen in among both patients with prior and new AF. This marked rise in the AC therapy prescription, mainly NOACs, in hospitalized non-valvular AF patients may be due the benefits of NOACs vs the difficulties in warfarin treatment.
