Anterior positioning screw in proximal femoral plating restricts posterior tilt of retroverted femoral neck fractures: A retrospective cohort study
Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research May 21, 2021
Nie SB, Liu JF, Zhu JH, et al. - This study was carried out to assess the configuration of the anterior positioning screw in proximal femoral plating in the treatment of retroverted femoral neck fractures in terms of resisting posterior tilt. Between January 2014 and August 2019, patients with retroverted femoral neck fractures who were fixed by proximal femoral plating were retrospectively examined. Individuals were classified into two groups according to screw configuration: anterior long-threaded screw (anterior long-threaded screw, n = 36) and normally short-threaded screws (normally short-threaded screws, n = 46). They used logistic regression analysis to distinguish risk factors for developing posterior tilt. The findings revealed that the configuration of the anterior positioning screw in proximal femoral plating provides better resistance against posterior tilt in the fixation of retroverted femoral neck fractures. The results demonstrated that posterior comminution, suboptimal reduction, and normally short-threaded screw configuration (reference: anterior long-threaded screw) are risk factors for developing posterior tilt.
