Anterior chamber depth - a predictor of refractive outcomes after age-related cataract surgery

BMC Ophthalmology Jul 01, 2019

Ning X, et al. - In patients with age-related cataracts, researchers evaluated the anterior chamber depth (ACD) changes and their connection with the refractive errors (REs) after phacoemulsification and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. For this investigation, they involved 145 eyes of 125 age-related cataract patients from the Department of Ophthalmology, Tangdu Hospital, China. After 2 weeks, the postoperative ACD was deepened and tended to gradually stabilize. Findings revealed that the ACD deepened and was linked to a concurrent RE after cataract surgery. Postoperative modifications in the ACD were associated with the preoperative ACD and axial length, which determined the status of refraction and visual quality. The postoperative ACD regression formula could provide a theoretical basis for clinical predicting refractive errors.
