Analysis of national trends in hospital acquired conditions following major urological surgery before and after implementation of the hospital acquired condition reduction program
Urology Jun 13, 2018
Rude TL, et al. - Authors ascertained the rates of common Hospital Acquired Conditions (HACs) in patients who underwent major urological surgery over a period of time encompassing the implementation of the Hospital-Acquired Condition Reduction program. They also assessed if the implementation of the HAC reimbursement penalties in 2008 was related to a change in the rate of HACs. Following major urological surgery, HACs occurred at a rate of 5.9%, and the procedure type and patient health status significantly affect them. In this cohort, national reduction program seemed to produce no impact on the rate of HAC.
