Anal sphincter defects and faecal incontinence 15â24 years after first delivery: A cross-sectional study
Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology Aug 11, 2017
Rojas RAG, et al. – This article was written with the objectives to establish the prevalence of external (EAS) and internal anal sphincter (IAS) defects 15–24 years after childbirth in relation to mode of delivery and faecal incontinence (FI), and compare the proportion of obstetric anal sphincter injuries (OASIS) reported at delivery with defects on ultrasound. Anal sphincter defects visualized by transperineal ultrasound 15–24 years after delivery were related to forceps and FI. Undetected OASIS was frequent.
