Allostatic load but not medical burden predicts memory performance in late-life bipolar disorder
International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry Dec 20, 2017
Vaccarino SR, et al. - An analysis was performed to evaluate the extent to which allostatic load vs more traditional measures of medical burden accounted for the heterogeneity in cognition among older patients with bipolar disorder (BD). Impairment on several cognitive domains and a high medical burden were found in euthymic older patients with BD. Their memory performance was more strongly correlated with an allostatic load than with traditional measures of medical burden. These findings required to be replicated and extended longitudinally.
