Greuter T, et al. - The researchers examined the efficacy and safety of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 antisense oligonucleotide alicaforsen in the treatment of left-sided ulcerative colitis (UC) and ulcerative proctitis. They found the 6-week course of alicaforsen to be safe and efficacious in inducing clinical improvement among patients with left-sided UC and proctitis. They observed prolonged clinical improvement in many but not in all patients.
