Aldosterone, inactive matrix Gla-protein, and large artery stiffness in hypertension
Journal of the American Society of Hypertension Jul 08, 2018
Chirinos JA, et al. - The relationship between plasma aldosterone, matrix Gla-protein (MGP), and arterial stiffness was studied via analyzing 199 adults (predominantly older men) with hypertension. Findings revealed a novel independent association between high aldosterone levels and dp-ucMGP, suggesting an influence of aldosterone on the MGP pathway. This association seems to underlie the previously documented link between aldosterone and increased arterial stiffness.
