Airway pathology in severe asthma is related to airflow obstruction but not symptom control

Ferreira DS, et al. - This study assessed bronchial biopsies of severe asthmatics to investigate inflammatory and structural pathological features possibly associated with symptom control and airflow obstruction after standardized treatment. Findings revealed no association between symptom control and airway tissue inflammation and remodeling in severe asthmatics, however, persistent airflow obstruction was found to be related to bronchial inflammation and airway structural changes in this patient population.
