Agreement between patient reported outcomes and clinical reports after radical prostatectomy - A prospective longitudinal study
BMC Urology May 14, 2019
Bock D, et al. - In the prospective non-randomized longitudinal trial LAParoscopic Prostatectomy Robot Open (LAPPRO), follow up of 4003 patients undergoing radical prostatectomy at 14 centers in Sweden was done with the aim to appraise the agreement between answers in patient questionnaires and clinical reports. In addition, they sought for the patient characteristics that were associated with agreement between these two data sources. Researchers performed the analysis of agreement using a variety of methods, including the recently proposed Gwet’s AC1, which permits handling the limitations of Cohen’s Kappa where agreement depends on the underlying prevalence. Patients consistently reported a higher incidence of postoperative events than the clinical reports for all outcomes. They noted consistently higher agreement regarding the absence of events (negative agreement) than agreement regarding events (positive agreement) for all outcome variables. The measure used for the assessment was noted influencing the overall impression of agreement. In line with the previous report, this study confirmed the association of desirable properties of Gwet’s AC1 as well as the patient characteristics with agreement.
