Age-specific associations between systolic blood pressure and cardiovascular mortality
Heart May 09, 2019
Jung MH, et al. - Using the Korean National Health Insurance sample data (n=429,220), researchers assessed the link between systolic blood pressure (SBP) of 130–139 mmHg and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality, as well as the association of SBP with cause-specific CVD mortality in all age groups among subjects without known hypertension and CVD. By age, they defined three categories of participants (40–59 years, 60–69 years, and 70–80 years). Findings revealed an elevation of total stroke mortality, but not ischemic heart disease (IHD) mortality, due to SBPs of 130–139 mmHg vs normal blood pressure in this elderly Korean population. In these subjects, no linear association was identified for IHD mortality in the range of < 140 mmHg.
