Age- and weight-based differences in haemodialysis prescription and delivery in children, adolescents and young adults
Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation Apr 25, 2018
Gotta V, et al. - In this retrospective observational study, researchers sought to characterize age- and weight-based differences in haemodialysis (HD) delivery in children, adolescents and young adults. With age and weight, variation was noted in the delivered HD treatment. Relative to adolescents and overweight young adults, who appeared to be at highest risk of receiving suboptimal treatment, children aged <12 years received more intensified treatment. The value of single pool Kt/V (spKt/V) as a measure of HD adequacy in children was doubtful as appropriate growth was not achieved in these children with the delivery of target or higher spKt/V values.
