Age‐specific clinicopathological characteristics and prognostic analysis of neuroendocrine carcinomas of the gallbladder

Cancer Medicine Dec 03, 2021

Zhang Z, Guo T, Huang X, et al. - Researchers compared clinical and pathological features between different age groups and prognostic factors for gallbladder neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC) and examined how NEC differs from adenocarcinoma (ADC) of the gallbladder.

  • Clinical characteristics and pathological findings of a total of 28 gallbladder NEC patients and 137 ADC patients were retrieved.

  • Two groups based on the age more than or less than 60 years were formed among NEC patients.

  • Age was not identified as predictive of overall survival of gallbladder NEC.

  • Following were independent risk factors for NECs: surgical method and tumor size.

  • In addition, a worse prognosis was recorded for NEC vs ADC patients with similar clinical and pathological features.
