Accumulation of advanced glycation end products is associated with macrovascular events and glycaemic control with microvascular complications in Type 2 diabetes mellitus
Diabetic Medicine May 17, 2018
Yozgatli K, et al. - The researchers performed a prospective cohort study to compare the predictive value of glycaemic control (HbA1c) and skin autofluorescence (SAF) for new macrovascular events and microvascular complications in people with Type 2 diabetes. This study was conducted on five hundred sixty-three participants. The consequences of this study demonstrated that tissue accumulation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs), assessed by SAF, was linked with the development of macrovascular events in people with Type 2 diabetes. On the other hand, HbA1c was correlated with the development of microvascular complications.
