Acceptability comparison between Hawley retainers and vacuum-formed retainers in orthodontic adult patients: A single-centre, randomized controlled trial
European Journal of Orthodontics Aug 10, 2017
Saleh M, et al. – The present study sought to compare the acceptability of Hawley retainers (HRs) and vacuum formed retainers (VFRs) over a 6–month period in a group of fixed orthodontic patients. Researchers reported that VFR was significantly more acceptable than HR in speech, appearance, gingival irritation, swallowing, self–confidence, and comfort over a 6–month period of retention. Subjects in the HR group trusted that their retainers were significantly more strongly than those in the VFR group at the final assessment. Both retainers were equivalent with respect to the fitting of the appliance, biting, and hygiene perception.
