A systematic review and meta-analysis indicates long-term risk of chronic and end-stage kidney disease after preeclampsia
Kidney International Aug 28, 2019
Covella B, Vinturache AE, Cabiddu G, et al. - Since preeclampsia can influence cardiovascular and kidney health in the long term but the entity of risk has not been established and consequently follow-up policies have not been described, therefore, researchers performed this systematic review to acquire more knowledge on the requirement for post–preeclampsia follow-up. From MEDLINE, Embase, and Cochrane Library, they identified articles with at least 20 preeclampsia patients and a follow-up of 4 years or more. The articles published between January 2000 and March 2018 were chosen. They analyzed 21 papers including 110,803 cases with and 2,680,929 controls without preeclampsia. They found a significantly increased risk of end stage renal disease in correlation with preeclampsia. However, there is a scarcity of sufficient data to demonstrate a link between preeclampsia, albuminuria and chronic kidney disease.
