A randomized placebo-controlled clinical trial of a multi-strain probiotic formulation (Bio-Kult) in the management of diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome

Ishaque SM, et al. - Given that imbalance of gut bacteria contributes to irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and that increasing the mass of beneficial species may reduce the numbers of pathogenic bacteria and help alleviate symptoms, in this double-blind trial experts evaluated the impact of a multi-strain probiotic formulation (Bio-Kult) in the management of diarrhoea-predominant IBS. Findings suggested an association of the multi-strain probiotic with significant improvement in symptoms of patients with IBS-D and it was well-tolerated. As per data, in IBS-D patients, benefit was conferred by probiotics.
