A prospective study of the clinical outcomes of peri-implant tissues in patients treated for peri-implant mucositis and followed up for 54 months
Clinical Implant Dentistry and Related Research Aug 21, 2019
Fernandes-Costa AN, et al. - The clinical conditions of peri-implant tissues in patients diagnosed with peri-implant mucositis were described by researchers after 54 months of peri-implant supportive therapy. For this prospective study, 38 patients receiving peri-implant supportive therapy, associated with oral hygiene instructions, were evaluated at baseline and at 54 months for visible plaque and gingival bleeding indexes, probing depth and bleeding on probing. According to findings, none of the independent variables assessed such as age, gender, smoking, type of prosthesis, time using the prosthesis, keratinized mucosa, phenotype peri-implant, classification of visible plaque index and classification of gingival bleeding index showed important connections with “worsening” or “improvement” of clinical parameters. Peri-implant support treatment was not adequate to resolve peri-implant mucositis, although reductions in baseline clinical parameters were noted and maintained during follow-up.
