A prospective randomized study on operative treatment for simple distal tibial fractures—minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis vs minimal open reduction and internal fixation

Kim JW, et al. - Patients who underwent either minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) or minimal open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) for simple distal tibial fractures, were compared with respect to the radiologic and clinical outcomes. Both MIPO and minimal ORIF afforded high union rates and good functional outcomes. Notably, no increased rates of infection and wound dehiscence were noted in those who underwent minimal ORIF.
