A nested case–control study of predictors for tuberculosis recurrence in a large UK Centre
BMC Infectious Diseases Mar 06, 2018
Rosser A, et al. - Researchers sought to assess the prevailing risk factors leading to tuberculosis (TB) recurrence in low incidence countries. The UK setting was shown to have a low rate of TB recurrence, predominantly due to relapse. Multivariate analysis revealed that smoking, grade 3/4 adverse drug reactions, ethnicity ‘Indian subcontinent’, ethnicity ‘other’ and receipt of immunosuppressants were independent predictors of TB recurrence. Amongst the ethnic group contributing most cases to the national TB burden, the identification of an elevated recurrence risk presents an opportunity to improve individual and population health.
