Ricci JA, et al. - This study analyzed data on implant-based breast reconstruction and postmastectomy radiation therapy (PMRT) in order to assess outcomes in implant-based reconstruction and the timing of PMRT. Findings demonstrated an association of PMRT applied to implant-based breast reconstruction with high risk of reconstructive failure and capsular contracture, irrespective of timing. Alternative strategies, such as autologous tissue reconstructions, were recommended to be considered in patients requiring PMRT.
