Journal of Periodontology Feb 09, 2019
Sakurai SI, et al. - Authors analyzed 2716 candidates to examine the relationships between periodontal diseases and internal alterations in metabolic syndrome (MetS) elements using a longitudinal analysis. They noticed an incline in a positive number of MetS components among 26.7% of cases whereas a decline was observed in 62 individuals. An elevated number of MetS components was reported in people with persistent/progressive periodontitis as compared to those with no/improved periodontitis. They noted improvement in periodontitis with a significant positive influence on MetS components, including hypertension and hyperglycemia. But a negative impression on hypertension was also found.
