Panganiban RA, et al. - Genetic variants in the chromosomal region 17q21 are consistently associated with asthma. This study involved detection and characterization of functional variants in the 17q21 locus. A functional asthma variant in the GSDMB gene of the 17q21 locus, was identified. Data also implicates GSDMB-mediated epithelial cell pyroptosis in pathogenesis.
