A comparison of the open semi-extended parapatellar vs standard entry tibial nailing techniques and knee pain: A randomized controlled trial
Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma Dec 22, 2018
Rothberg DL, et al. - A sum of 47 cases with OTA/AO 42A-C tibial shaft fractures were analyzed in this randomized controlled trial to determine if an open, semi-extended, parapatellar tibial nailing technique (SEK) show any undue knee symptoms/pain as compared to the traditional infrapatellar tibial nailing technique (FK). They observed equivalent symptoms scores but different pain scores in both the techniques as the open SEK technique exhibited a decreasing knee pain score with no significant variations between the 2 groups with respect to demographics, injury, or surgery-related variables.
