A comparison of outcomes after endoscopic repair of partial vs full- thickness tears of the gluteus medius tendon
Arthroscopy Feb 25, 2021
Thaunat M, de Saint Vincent B, Caron E, et al. - This study was sought to explore and compare the functional outcomes after endoscopic repair of partial or full-thickness gluteus medius tears at a minimum of 2 years’ follow-up. Researchers assessed patients with the isolated tear of the gluteus medius tendon repaired endoscopically between 2012 and 2017 at a minimum of 2 years follow-up. Using the modified Harris Hip score (mHHS), Non-arthritic Hip Score (NAHS), and visual analogue scale (VAS), functional outcomes were evaluated for pain preoperatively and at the last follow-up. They enrolled 46 patients, 3 men and 43 women with a mean age of 63 ± 9 [43-82] years. At a minimum follow-up of 2 years, endoscopic repair of gluteus medius tendon tears yields excellent functional outcomes. They observed a lower functional improvement for full-thickness tear; this variation was statistically significant for one of the two scores evaluated.
