A clinico-demographic study of 344 patients with lichen planus pigmentosus seen in a tertiary care center in India over an 8-year period

International Journal of Dermatology Jun 28, 2019

Vinay K, et al. - Via reviewing clinical and demographic records of all lichen planus pigmentosus (LPP) [an acquired hyperpigmentation disorder that affects certain racial and ethnic groups] patients, researchers retrospectively analyzed the demographic and clinical features of LPP. For this investigation, they analyzed data of 344 LPP patients. As compared to males, affected females had a significantly higher age at onset but lesser disease duration at presentation. A significant positive correlation was noted between body surface area involvement and disease duration. This is the largest clinico-demographic study on LPP so far. Observed morphological patterns of LPP included diffuse, reticular, blotchy, and follicular. The more widespread disease was associated with a longer duration of disease. Although the disease has improved over time as per the global assessment of patients and doctors, complete clearance has seldom been achieved.
