Breast arterial calcification on mammography and risk of coronary artery disease: A SCOT-HEART sub-study

Clinical Radiology Mar 01, 2019

McLenachan S, et al. - In this sub-study of the SCOT-HEART trial, researchers evaluated the prevalence of breast arterial calcification (BAC) in patients who were also subject to routine surveillance mammography, and determined the association of coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) with cardiovascular risk factors, coronary artery calcification, and coronary artery disease. Findings revealed that the diagnostic accuracy of patients with coronary artery disease or obstructive coronary artery disease was poor among 405 identified female participants, although BAC was related to the presence and severity of coronary artery calcification.
