Effects of metformin therapy on coronary endothelial dysfunction in prediabetic patients with stable angina and non-obstructive coronary artery stenosis: The CODYCE multicenter prospective study

Diabetes Care Feb 28, 2019

Sardu C, et al. - Authors analyzed 258 propensity score-matched individuals with stable angina undergoing coronary angiography to examine the impact of metformin treatment on coronary endothelial function along with major adverse cardiac events (MACE) in those with prediabetes (pre-DM) plus stable angina and nonobstructive coronary stenosis (NOCS). They noticed a lower percentage of left anterior descending coronary (LAD) endothelial dysfunction at baseline in normoglycemia (NG) patients vs those with pre-DM. An elevated percentage of endothelial LAD dysfunction was recorded in those with pre-DM vs those with pre-DM treated with metformin. They reported a higher MACE in pre-DM vs NG at the 24th month of follow-up, but in pre-DM metformin patients, they observed a lower MACE vs pre-DM subjects.
